Principal’s Welcome
Welcome to our website. Scoil Santain was the first Gaelscoil formed in Tallaght in 1979 . We were founded by the determination and strong wish of local parents to educate their children through Irish. There is, and has always been, a strong interest in the Irish language and culture in our community .
Scoil Santain is a very friendly, welcoming Gaelscoil which provides education of the highest standard. Together, all our staff and parents work together to do our best for every child in our care. I am privileged to be Principal and past pupil of the school, where everyone works together to achieve our aim- to have our children learn actively and happily to achieve a wide, fun education through Irish.
We have a vibrant and experienced staff who encourage the children to learn while recognising our children’s individual needs. They provide a holistic education which includes sports, music, chess, German etc.
We are very proud of our boys and girls football , hurling and camogie teams who represented the school in Croke Park many times over the years.
Our Coiste na dTuistí (Parents Committee) are also very active. They help the school in many ways- School events, working with us on planning/policies, fundraising, school garden ,library etc.
Scoil Santain has a DEIS status which provides us with extra resources such as reduced class sizes, providing free hot lunches to our pupils daily, a Home School Community Liaison and strong support from the School Completion Programme which includes our literacy in/afterschool programmes as well as many others. ,eg., Doodle Den, Doodle Families, Doodle STEAM, Transitions Programmes, Kick programme.
We have an effective Board of Management who manage the running of the school and who support me as Principal to ensure we have a safe, clean learning environment for the children and staff, and also ensure that we have a vibrant enthusiastic staff all working for the betterment of each child..
Gaeilge (Irish) is the language of communication throughout the school and we take every opportunity to celebrate our language and culture. Seachtain na Gaeilge is the high point of our school year! from Junior Infants to 6th class with many special events,
We also celebrate many other weeks throughout the year such as Friendship Week, Active Week, World Book Day, Science Week, Maths Week etc. These are activity filled weeks for the children.
We have a wide range of ICT equipment in the school, including interactive whiteboards in every classroom and a suite of laptops and tablets. These ICT resources are used to enhance the active learning we encourage.
It’s important to us to get to know every child in our school and we believe in supporting all children’s individual talents. We work hard to create a school where each child is happy and performing to the best of their ability.
Welcome to our website and we hope you enjoy it!
